Settled by Mormon Pioneers in 1864, Panguitch is Paiute Indian word meaning “Big Fish”. The pioneer heritage of Panguitch can be seen in the beautiful red brick homes and buildings throughout the community. In 2006 the entire community of Panguitch was designated as an Historic District.

Panguitch is in the center of some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth. There are five National Parks, two National Monuments, one National Recreation Area, and five State Parks as well as other recreational areas.

Panguitch hosts numerous festivals annually. The Quilt Walk Festival in June celebrates seven men who saved the community from starvation by “Quilt Walking” over the mountain to obtain food from an established settlement.

The Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally in late June hosts over 30 hot air balloons in spectacular morning ascensions and an equally spectacular balloon glow on Main Street after dark.

Our Homecoming celebration on July 24 includes parades, barbecues, pioneer programs, and rodeos. For bicycle enthusiasts the Desperado Dual Bicycle Rally in late August hosts a 100 or 200 mile ride through some of the most breathtaking scenery on Earth.

The Red Rock Pow Wow in September celebrates Native American heritage.
