Draper City is located in the southeast corner of the Salt Lake Valley, nestled up against the Wasatch Mountains on the east and the Traverse Mountain Range on the south. Due to its ideal location halfway between downtown Salt Lake City and Utah Valley (Provo, Orem areas), many recreational and retail businesses have been recently been built in Draper.
Draper’s newest outdoor water park is Cowabunga Bay Water Park, located at 12047 S. Factory Outlet Dr. This water park not only looks like a fun place to hang out, it is fun for all ages.
Another new addition to Draper is the famous In-N-Out Burger, located just off the I-15 freeway and 12400 South. Many Utahans used to drive to California in order to sample one of these famous burgers, known for fresh, not frozen meat and the fresh-cut fries. And now there is one in Draper!
In order to provide a place for all the new visitors to spend the night, a brand new Springhill Suites Hotel (approx. 120 rooms) is opening near the Draper Factory Outlets and Cowabunga. Draper’s three other motels include: Comfort Inn, Fairfield Inn and Ramada Limited.
One of the amenities residents have named in surveys as very important to them is trails, miles and miles of them. Draper City has more than 60 miles of trails for cycling, hiking and horseback riding. The trails interconnect and can take you from town up into the foothills of the Wasatch Front. The city recently preserved more than 1,000 acres in Corner Canyon and partnered with Salt Lake County and Sandy City to set aside 2,000 acres along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
For those looking for a little shopping R&R, there is plenty of it in Draper, starting with IKEA’s only intermountain store, located at the intersection of I-15 and Bangerter Highway. Located right across the street is Furniture Row. Many intriguing shops and restaurants are located at the 12300 South Exit from I-15. The Draper Peaks outdoor shopping center features a wide variety of unusual shopping experiences.
Draper is said to have one of the top locations in the country for hang gliding and paragliding. Gliders push off from the new Salt Lake County Hang Gliding Park, located at 15400 So. Steep Mountain Road (100 East).
For winter recreation, eight ski resorts are located within 30 miles. The closest resorts are a mere 20 miles up the Big or Little Cottonwood Canyons. |
